Expedition to the Selenga River, Lake Gusinoye (Republic of Buryatia) and Lake Baikal, July 2-10, 2018
The expedition to the Selenga River, Lake Gusinoye (Republic of
Buryatia) and Lake Baikal took place on July 2-10, 2018 within the
framework of the joint studies with the University of West Alabama
(USA). During the expedition the researchers sampled sculpins at 2
sites of Lake Gusinoye and 5 sites of the Selenga River to study their
origin and divergence in Lake Baikal. They used small-meshed nets and
seines for catching fish. Trawling was carried out at different depth
of Lake Baikal (from 150 m to 1200 m) at 6 sites in the central and
southern basins of the lake. As a result of this expedition, 3-5
representatives of 5 sculpin species were collected.
